Morgan Coghill Releases Statement on Brad Schneider Cancelling Town Hall

Mundelein, IL – Morgan Coghill, Democrat for IL 10, released the following statement after Brad Schneider abruptly canceled an Indivisible McHenry County town hall, informing organizers through a staffer that he was no longer interested in speaking because he felt “discomfort” with some of the people who planned to attend:

“It is disappointing but entirely predictable to see a career politician like Brad Schneider walk away from doing the basic work of his job. Our tax dollars pay his salary and his healthcare. In return, his responsibility is to show up, listen to the people he represents, and carry their voices to Washington. You do not need a civics degree to understand that, and yet he just cancelled on the people he claims to serve.

There are any number of reasons he might be avoiding this moment. It could be doesn’t want to answer for his support of HR 488, thanking ICE for their work, while that agency continues to kill citizens in cold blood. It could be his habit of finding endless taxpayer dollars to fund Israel’s genocide in Gaza while telling working families that universal healthcare coverage is unrealistic.

Whatever the excuse, it shows the same pattern we have been talking about for years.

In an age when our democracy sits on a knife’s edge, how can anyone trust Brad Schneider to fight for us against a tyrannical MAGA agenda if he cannot even work up the courage to face his own voters?

That is why over the last month, four leading community justice organizations have stepped forward to back our movement. They see the same thing residents see every day. A representative who disappears when things get hard. They are done with it. So are we.

As a candidate, I say: I will never back away from the people who put me in this seat. I will show up. I will take the hard conversations head-on.

And as one of Brad Schneider’s constituents today, I say: Do the job we pay you for, Brad.”
